Success is Your Key

There are so many ways to deal with the struggles of college. My secret to get through college is to make sure you are organized and spend most of your time focusing on school rather than your social life. As a freshman, I really tried to make sure I was focused on finding friends. Before I went to college I always had heard the statement that “you will make your lifelong friends in college,” so with hearing that I tried to spend more time on trying to find my friends right away. If I could have redone my start of freshman year I would have taken my advice now, and tried to get my schoolwork organized before trying to build up my social life. Don’t get me wrong. I love all the friends I have made but I did fall behind in some schoolwork, because of my choices of hanging out with friends rather than studying for an exam, preparing for a school project, and so on.

The next biggest secret I have with getting through college would be making sure to check in with understanding time management. Time management is a very important skill. So the thing I would tell any freshman before attending college is to make sure you are taking time to figure out where your classes are so you know where to go on the first day and not stress out about finding your classes last minute. Another reason time management is important for college is so you are finding time to have relaxation time for yourself too, aside from working on your school. The last reason why I am touching on why time management is important is because it will give you time to approach your studying. Studying is a big part of your college career because it helps you understand the material you are learning.

If you take all of these secrets while you attend as a freshman college will be such a great experience for your life. But figuring out ways to make it a good process would be to prioritize organization and time management.

Stressful…More Like STRESSFUL

Typically every high school student after they graduate all they can think about is going to college and how exciting it will be. Well college is a nice get away from living at home with your parents, it also can be a wake up call to the start of your adult life. For me when I started college it was nothing but fun at first and then throughout the years it has been way more tricky. I am now a junior in college and all I want to do is graduate, get my degree, and get out of here. Some stressful things that have been hard during college are managing your time correctly between your school work, your actual job, and your free time.

Having school be the most important thing you should be worrying about can put a lot of stress on students. Personally, I think my most difficult class right now is the writing intensive ones. When I first graduated high school I thought it would be super simple with writing classes because that was something I have always done well. What I think that is making it the most difficult is finding the time to write the papers and get them done. A lot of times I find myself procrastinating, especially the days when I get home from work late. The biggest words I have to describe these classes are overwhelmed and frustrated. I also am the type of person who likes to make sure almost everything is perfect. When something does not turn out the way I hoped it would or I get a bad grade on it I go into panic mode. There are so many ways to calm down stress and my thought process is right now to just keep pushing through and move forward with the hard stressors.

Understanding My Power

What life is like for me now as I am not living at home. My life is feeling independent. I definitely have been missing my family. I will always be missing my family but I also have been in college for three years now so I am getting used to the idea of living on my own. Having all of these certain responsibilities on my own is a lot different than in high school. For example I have to make doctor appointments on my own, I have to make money through a job on my own and I have to buy my food from the store on my own. There are just so many different responsibilities and when I was a freshman in college I really felt as if I was thrown out in adult life on my own. Personally my thought is that it has definitely gotten a lot easier throughout the years of life on my own, and I actually am starting to prefer it more than living at home with family.

There will always be many pros and cons of living on my own and being my own boss. A couple pros about living alone is there are no rules and freedom. Examples of this would be having no curfew, not having to text my parents where I am going all the time, and being able to cook my own meals all the time. A con about living by myself is not having the family support right near you at all times. Another big con would be not being able to sleep in my own bed and feeling comfortable in the comfort of my own home. The last con would probably be not being able to talk to many people. Even though there are pros and cons I still enjoy living alone and being able to feel like my own boss.
