Online Classes Crash Course

When signing up for classes I thought it would be a good idea to take my first-year seminar online. It is fine some weeks; other times I wish I did not take it online. It is very hard to sit through a live meeting without getting distracted. Most of the time I end up watching a movie or TV show to pass the time. If I was in an actual class, I would not be able to do that. I would also be more committed to the class. Part of being in an online is the amount of busy work I get throughout the week, like watching a two-hour video and writing what I learned or clicking on links and telling her what I learned. It just annoys me because it is not really teaching me anything, but it takes away free time that I would have otherwise.  I think an in-person class is better for me because I tend to pay more attention to material.

Having an online class may be annoying but there are some benefits to taking an online class. One benefit of taking an online class is, I do not have to be in Green Bay to attend class. Recently I have been leaving Green Bay around noon every Thursday because it is my last in-person class. Although I have my online class at 5:30, I am still able to attend class while being in Tomah, three hours from Green Bay.  Another benefit to having a online class is the ability to do the work whenever I want to. Every assignment has a deadline, but I could finish the work for the semester early and not have to worry about it during the week. This is nice if I know the next week will be busy with a lot of assignments, I can do the work the week before to free up time the following week.  I will be taking more online classes in the future during J-term and summer-term classes because I do not have to be in Green Bay to attend.

Living It Up in the Dorms

Dorm life can look different for many people. For me, living in the dorm has some cons. One con of living in the dorms is the beds. When I am here, I struggle to fall asleep. I have tried to make my little twin as comfortable as possible, but it just is not good enough. I have put a mattress topper and memory foam on the mattress to try and help. I also have very nice sheets, pillows, and a comforter, I still could not get comfortable. For some reason, I can never fall asleep before three o’clock in the morning. Another con to living in the dorms is how hot the rooms are. The first few weeks when it was eighty degrees out, I hardly got any sleep. I was also sweating trying to do homework even late in the night. To try and beat the heat I would take cold showers. I felt good right away, but it slowly got uncomfortable the longer you showered because I got too cold.

Although living in the dorms may come with some cons, there are also many positives. One positive of living in the dorms is the ability to spend a lot of time with friends. My college roommate is my best friend from high school. It has made settling into college easier. We have also met a couple of buddies Dev and Bindi who are also best friends from high school. Another positive of living in the dorms in a sense of freedom. I have the ability to do whatever I want when I want to. I  can also learn many life skills like                      Picture Source: Gitmind                                       doing my own laundry, dishes, and                                                                                 cleaning.

Bossin’ Myself Around

In college being your own boss can be difficult for some people, easier for others. For me, being my own boss has been easy. I have been good at getting my homework done before the deadlines. I like to get all my work done before Thursday morning, so I can leave right after my writing class and not worry about having to do any homework all weekend. I think it is important to get it done so I am not cramming to do everything on Sunday. Another thing I have been doing well as my own boss is my eating habits. Overall, I have been eating pretty healthy, which includes salads, subs, and fruit.

Being your own boss comes with some good things, but also some bad. One bad habit I have picked up is that I am less active. When I am at home, I tend to be

super busy and active, but while at college I spend a lot of time sitting around. I try to go to the gym every day while at college but that still is not a lot of exercise. When not doing my homework, I sit on my phone or play video games. What it comes down to is a lot of my hobbies I do at home are not easily something I can do while at college. Some of my hobbies include hunting, working on or riding dirt bikes, and golfing. I can golf but it costs a lot of money to golf in Green Bay because I do not have a membership like I have at home. Overall college has made me become a pretty good boss.
