Living in a Shoebox

Living in a dorm was my biggest excitement about college life. From being able to decorate it, to living with someone I would grow really close with, I was very excited to start the college tradition of living in a dorm. There are many pros to living on campus, but also dorm-life has its cons. For starters you don’t get your own space to yourself very often. My roommate is a friend of mine from high school, and while we get along great, sometimes I just need a break and space to myself. Sharing such a small space is also something I find difficult about dorm life. This was a big change for me because I never had to share a room with my siblings and had a large bedroom to myself at home. Our room also gets full very fast with dirty laundry and stuff we accumulate over time here, which makes it feel like I am living in a shoebox.                                                                                                      While there are a lot of negatives about living in the dorms, I think the positives way outweigh them. One thing I love about the dorm life would be the fact that we have our own bathrooms! This is much nicer than having to carry all my stuff down to the communal showers and worrying about contracting foot fungus. Another pro about life in the dorms would be the cost here vs an off-campus apartment. I get to save money and be much closer to my classes. Living off campus would also mean having to pay for doing laundry and utilities, while on campus you automatically pay that with housing fees. Another thing I am really enjoying is how much closer my roommate and I have gotten over the past two months. We have known each other since kindergarten and are closer than we’ve ever been.
