When I thought about college during high school, I thought it was going to be a non-stop onslaught of work and assignments with a hint of constant studying. But these first few weeks of college have certainly proven me wrong. What I thought was going to be sleepless nights doing homework turned into going to UWGB bingo and making new friends. I did have homework, of course, but not to the degree I thought it was going to be. I spend around 2-4 hours every other day doing homework, and some classes may be difficult, like my computer science class, but once I pace myself correctly, it totally works. This really gave me a good time to hang out with my friends, and I was able to discover more about the campus itself as well.
Another expectation I was incorrect about was the impression and character of my professors in all of my classes. In high school, my high school teachers would always say things like “your professors won’t be as forgiving” and “professors won’t make time for you,” but my professor proved that wrong. My professors are so much more down to earth than any high school teacher I’ve ever had, an example being my professor of Fundamentals of Public Address. She talks about the most casual things while still teaching the class, and when I have a question, she makes sure to help me understand, and we would sometimes talk after class to talk to me about the subject for today. This blew my expectations out the door and really gave me hope and inspiration to work harder throughout this first semester of college.
