Living the Pheonix Life

I had many expectations for my first year of college. I had imagined what it was going to be like because of what I have heard from my older sister and what I have seen on TV and in movies. I had expected the classes to be much larger than I was used to in high school, I thought that my teachers would not notice me because they had so many students, and I thought that I was going to have a ton more work to do. My biggest expectation was that college was going to be very difficult for me. The idea of starting in a new environment with new people and new classes terrified me.

I had expected that I would be riding the struggle bus for the whole first semester. However, I have learned that it’s not as scary as I anticipated. Surprisingly, it did not take me very long to learn my surroundings and find my way around campus. Since starting classes I have made many new friends and I feel like I am doing well with my adjustment. My classes have no more than about forty people in them, which surprised me because I thought that my first two years were going to be filled with huge classes in large lecture halls. Along with my smaller classes, I have found that my workload is also a lot smaller than I thought it was going to be. Before I came here, I thought I was going to be bombarded with so much homework that I was going to have to work day in and day out at school. However, this is not the case so far, I actually have a very respectable and very doable amount of homework that I am expected to do. I have found that even though I was terrified to start new, college is not as hard as I expected it to be.
