Embrace the Adventure

College can be the best time of your life or it can be the hardest time. I think that being prepared and learning some helpful skills along the way is a part of determining what kind of experience you will have. There are a few things that I do to stay on top of everything. Life can get pretty busy as a student, so the main things that I do to balance everything out are staying organized, practicing time management, getting support when I need it, and remembering to take care of myself. I am a non-traditional student, which means my life looks a little different from the typical college freshman but the advice I have to give is universal. Staying organized by using a daily planner helps me to keep track of my assignment due dates, what I have already completed, and anything else that I have going on that day.

I believe time management goes hand in hand with staying organized. This skill allows me to balance out my timing for school work, social life and self-care. It helps me to stay on track so that I don’t procrastinate or fall behind in any of my classes while also making sure to schedule time for self-care which helps me to release stress and keep a positive outlook. It all comes down to essentially learning how to be responsible. I have been used to being a responsible adult for a few years now, but what I would say to a freshman student who is coming right from high school is to be kind to yourself and know that it will take time to get used to all of the responsibilities. Thankfully our school has so many helpful resources for students. Try to embrace this chapter of your life and always make sure to ask for support if you need it
