Blog #3; Advice to Incoming Freshman

Guidelines to Follow

As a freshman, I had no idea what I should expect coming into college. Yes, there were the things I had seen on TV, or learned from a family friend in college, but I truly had no idea what I was walking into. I am the first generation in my family to go to college, how could I know what to do when I run into issues with classes, teachers, roommates, and any other struggles I have encountered? In relation to classes, there are many problems that can occur. These problems range from struggling to pick classes,              falling behind, failing, and more. Teachers are supposed to be used as resources but can be the root of many strains in your life. Teachers may be biased, hard graders, pick on you or have many unknown reasons as to why they give you such a hard time. Being given a hard time may be a frequent pattern in college depending on what roommate you get. The roommate you get is someone you are often spending the majority of

To make college life better for the incoming freshmen, I have thought of some guidelines or advice, they should follow. When it comes to class and teachers, always go to class, ask for help if you are struggling even the slightest amount, go to the learning center, and always study! Using the resources that UWGB has provided, such as your teachers, academic advisor, and learning center, will help you succeed in your time at college. Regarding your roommate, friends, and teachers, communication is a vital part of the relationship. If your roommate is doing something that is upsetting you and you do not tell them then tension is going to grow between the two of you. This unresolved tension will only create a negative living environment for both you and your roommate. The situation is the same with your friends, tension is never good for a relationship. Communication in a friendship is also good to make sure you are staying in contact and updating each other on your lives. Though with teachers the situation is a bit different. Communicating with your teacher is a good way for them to assist you in any struggles you are dealing with and also shows the other party what they are doing that is beneficial as a teacher.
