The Virtual Reality

The Virtual Reality

With the days of the Covid-19 lockdowns and social distancing long past us, I would like to reflect on some ways it has changed our lives. For some it had made them more self conscious about sanitary behavior, others it reminded how valuable social interaction with friends and family are. But for me I saw how it made us depend and embrace using technology for everyday life, whether it is for important matters or for personal enjoyment. For me I see this with my schooling and my online classes, and like many who have online classes there are the pros and cons, but also the wish that someone could have helped prepare us. But I want to go over what my experiences have been and hopefully you can learn from my experience

Logging onto canvas, joining a Zoom call and sitting quietly waiting to be called on or even just watching lecture videos can be abstracts for many. This to me and many is the biggest leap to get around with online schooling. The awkward science and staring at a screen with no physically social environment can be challenging for some. The work of online classes is really not too different from in-person courses, the biggest thing I had to get around was ensuring homework was submitted by deadlines. Getting the homework done and submitted is key to succeeding in an online class. Another issue that affects many is that some people learn in person better than online. This issue however can be reduced if you reach out to professors via email or do a meeting, this will help you succeed in the class. Finally I want to say there is one enjoyable thing about online classes, you can make your own hours, while to some this may be a problem, I see it as a benefit because you do not have to worry about being late to class or getting exposed to the elements. Overall I’ve learned a lot in class and much about myself. Online classes are not something you should fear, because ultimately the only thing that will hold you back is you.
