It’s Just Me and The Gnats

After over a decade of knowing someone, you would think you would be familiar with their habits. Yet, I would be wrong. For some background information, my roommate and I have known each other since elementary school. I have always noticed my roommate has had a clean living environment. Although, this past week I have noticed little gnats flying around our dorm room to the point I could not do a task without swatting one away. Come to find out there are dozens of moldy Starbucks cups under my roommate’s bed, along with dirty tupperware containers, and open food boxes. This was startling to me as I was always under the assumption that our room was clean. Yet, I have noticed everyone has different ideas of what clean really is.

Although the gnat problem was a little alarming for me, not everything about the dorm life is bad. I do find myself feeling free and independent as I get to make my own choices every day. Also not everything about my roommate is bad either. Since we have known each other for so long, it is so easy to just talk for hours about our lives. We stayed up until the next day multiple times reminiscing about high school and our old crushes. This is especially nice since we are living in such close quarters and we are already comfortable with each other. I never feel awkward or out of place in my dorm because of our strong friendship. Personally, I think the pros outweigh the cons of my current dorm life experience.
