phoenix-friday-on-the-fox-e-mail

Dear colleagues, it’s time for some summer fun.

Please join Georgia and me on Friday, July 29 as UW-Green Bay takes over Downtown Green Bay’s CityDeck. We are turning “Associated Bank’s Fridays on the Fox” to “Associated Bank’s Phoenix Fridays on the Fox” that evening. From 5 to 9 p.m., we will celebrate the strong and vital connection this University has with our wonderful city. Thanks to Associated Bank, we will also be provided free entertainment by Big Mouth and the Power Tool Horns — a sensational local band consisting of many UW-Green Bay alumni. While you’re there, show your Phoenix pride. Wear green, or your favorite Phoenix apparel and visit the UW-Green Bay booth near the splash pad (intersection of Pine St. off of Washington St.) for giveaways and Phlash photo opportunities. Consider acknowledging your attendance via facebook at the following link or feel free to just stop in. Go Phoenix!

Message from the Chancellor: Dallas Tragedy

UW-Green Bay Chancellor Gary L. Miller e-mailed the following message to faculty and staff on Friday, July 8, 2016:

Dear Members of the University Community:

Like all of you, Georgia and I are deeply saddened by the events in Dallas, Texas last evening.  I hope you will join us in expressing our sympathies to the families of the police officers who lost their lives and others who were injured and to a community horrified and frightened by senseless violence.  These events remind us of how much vigilance is required for a free society to forestall the forces of racism, injustice and ignorance.  As educators, we have a special opportunity and a sacred obligation to advocate for knowledge and reason as the currency of democracy.  As we mourn the tragedy in Dallas we are also grateful for your commitment to this great country and the precious ideals of the American Academy.

Message from the Chancellor: Orlando Tragedy

UW-Green Bay Chancellor Gary L. Miller e-mailed the following message to faculty and staff on Tuesday, June 14, 2016:

Dear Members of the University Community:

I know there are heavy hearts on our campus this week after the senseless violence in Orlando, Florida over the weekend.  Please join Georgia and me in sending our most sincere condolences to the families of the victims of this horrific act of violence.

It is my understanding that a campus event to give members of our community the opportunity to unite peacefully against such pointless violence is being planned.  Please be alert for details about the event as they become available.

As educators, we bear a special obligation to continue to try to find ways to create a world in which such pointless acts do not take place.  I hope we will rededicate ourselves to the cause of peace and the values found in diversity.  I hope we can find strength in uniting together in the wake of this tragedy.

Employee Appreciation Week

UW-Green Bay Chancellor Gary L. Miller e-mailed the following message to faculty and staff on Monday, May 2, 2016:

Dear Faculty and Staff Colleagues,

This week is “Employee Appreciation Week,” an opportunity to thank you for your dedicated service and commitment to UW-Green Bay and the State of Wisconsin.  I am deeply grateful to you for your innovative spirit, your commitment to transforming the lives of our students and your love of this place.

Like you, Georgia and I are proud to be part of the Phoenix family.  I see this every Friday when you wear your spirit gear and put that pride on display for the entire campus and community to see.

I want that pride to catch fire even more so I’m declaring every day “Phoenix Friday” all summer long.  Employees are welcome–and encouraged!—to wear their GB gear each and every day of the summer so that your campus spirit shines just as brightly on Monday through Thursday as it does on Friday.

Need to add some new items into your wardrobe?  The Bookstore is offering an additional 20% of all apparel on Wednesday and Friday of this week so you can stock up.

We are fortunate to have a talented workforce full of people dedicated to advancing UW-Green Bay and the Green Bay community.  Indeed, there is no UWGB without U.

Thank you again for your exceptional service and commitment.  I look forward to seeing you at the special events taking place this week.

Go Phoenix!

Update on budget reduction efforts

UW-Green Bay Chancellor Gary L. Miller released the following message via e-mail to employees on Wednesday, April 27, 2016:

Today, Provost Davis and I shared details regarding the University’s most recent budget reduction efforts with the Faculty Senate. For transparency, we are sharing this same information with you at this time. This video message https://youtu.be/WRg0uglQl00 provides background on the work that’s been done over the last few months. In addition, the attached budget reduction summary shows where and how the Budget Reduction Team identified an additional $2 million, which can be accomplished without any layoffs.

As always, should you have any questions on this or our ongoing efforts to navigate our evolving operational and funding models, please know that my door is always open.

Thank you for your ongoing support during this transformational time.

E-mail: UWGB 2015-16 Budget Reduction Impact Summary

UW-Green Bay Chancellor Gary L. Miller released the following message via e-mail to employees on Friday, April 15, 2016:

I am sure you have now seen the budget impact sheets released by UW System for each campus.  You may find the one for UWGB at UWGB Budget Reduction Impact. This report was prepared at the direction of UW System to inform the Board of Regents, legislative colleagues and our community partners about the general effects of the budget reductions enacted by the legislature last year.  The reductions listed on this sheet went into effect this past year. As we routinely argue, universities are integrated organizations and, thus, cuts in one area affect many other areas.  The list of effects of these reductions reflect this integration.  This sheet is not intended to be a detailed list of all reductions.  Rather, it is designed to give the reader a clear impression of the overall effect of reducing the university budget by more than $2 M.

Our current expense reduction process is also noted on the summary sheet.  The details of that additional $2 M reduction related to soft enrollment will be disseminated to the University community in the coming days as decisions are finalized.

I continue to believe UWGB is in the best position possible to work through our current difficulties and expand our role in this community.  However, please know that our Trustees and I continue to strongly urge policy makers not to apply additional reductions to the University in the coming biennium and to enter into a discussion about a rational tuition policy.  I will share a copy of the Trustees’ statement in the near future.

Thank you all for your great work and, most especially, for your commitment to our students and this community.
