Presentation & Discussion: White Emotionality, Teaching, and Learning (Dec. 9, 1-2 p.m.)

Join Christin DePouw (Associate Professor, Education & 2021-22 Equity, Diversity, and Inclusion Consultant) for a presentation and guided conversation, on Dec. 9, from 1-2 p.m. Building on prior conversations, we will discuss white emotionality (Matias, 2016) as a complex set of emotional responses to race-focused discussions and consider the role of white emotionality in teaching and learning. Student Parent Advocacy Panel (Nov. 11, 12-1 p.m.)

Those on our campus who are interested in unique learning challenges facing student parents on our campus, both in our regular classes and in engaging with HIPs, are cordially invited to a panel of UWGB student parents, including Carl Woitekaitis and Candace Hoch, discussing these issues. The panel, moderated by Katia Levintova (Professor of Democracy and Justice Studies (Political Science and Global Studies), and a 2021-22 Equity, Diversity, and Inclusion Consultant) is on Thursday, November 11, 12-1, virtually via Zoom. Workshop: Providing WISE Feedback to Students (Nov. 15, 3-4 p.m.)

Join CATL staff on Nov. 15, 3-4 p.m. for a workshop about the WISE feedback technique for providing constructive, encouraging feedback and how it can be applied to your class, regardless of size. Participants will engage with scenarios to practice applying WISE principles. Learn more.

Distance Education Certificate Program

The Provost’s Office launched a Distance Education Certificate program in June. With the help of the CARES Act and the Provost’s Office, instructors who participate will earn stipends for completing courses in the program. Anyone developing or reconfiguring a course for any of the distance education modalities is encouraged to participate. Learn more.

Workshop: What Will You Carry Forward? (Aug. 23, 12–1:15 p.m.)

Last year changed everything—or did it?

CATL is partnering with faculty for a “show and tell” event via Microsoft Teams where some of your fellow instructors will show how they are moving on from last year. What did they keep? What will they discard? Learn more.

Workshop: Syllabi Building (Aug. 26, 1–3 p.m. & Aug. 27, 11 a.m–1 p.m.)

Come build your syllabi with friends in these workshops where we’ll offer templates, checklists, and snippets to help you set the tone for the semester. Learn more.

Follow Up to Workshop “What Will You Carry Forward?”

This workshop featured four instructors who did a “show and tell” about how they incorporated lessons from the pandemic into their teaching. They then fielded questions from the audience. Now, through the magic of video technology, we are extending that workshop to those who were not able to attend the live event. Learn more.
