“I Wish I Was Home…I Wish I Was Back There”

(Since I’m a big musical theater nerd in my spare time…I decided that I could sum up my life and the title for this blog in that quote from the musical THE WIZ.)

At the end of finals week I was more than happy to leave GB. Not the fabulous school, not my friends, but a nice break from academia was welcomed. Even though I would miss some amenities of Green Bay like cable and high-speed internet (which explains the lack of posting, and I apologize)- nothing beats home-cooked meals and old friends. Senior Year Schedule Changes

It’s about this time of year when seniors in high school get antsy to graduate. Are you feeling it? You’re not alone. It’s totally normal to be excited to start the next step, but it can also be very scary. Don’t worry. We are here to help you though this time. Can I tell you what scares me? Senior Year Schedule Changes frighten me. Continue reading Senior Year Schedule Changes

MAJOR TALK: Internships!

You will end up taking plenty of courses for your Major here at UW-Green Bay and they are all important to your educational development, but Internships might be a great opportunity for you to gain real world experience. They are not mandatory, but are highly recommended by many professors/ advisors and myself. No matter what your Major or interest is, there is most likely some sort of Internship or opportunity out there for you. Some Internship can be for student organizations here on campus or other internships can be for outside companies and businesses. Continue reading MAJOR TALK: Internships!

UWGB – What I do for fun!

Something I like to do more than anything is play basketball over at the Kress Events Center on the UWGB campus. It’s a close place where I can get a bunch of my friends together for a pick up game. And the best part is it’s completely free for students, even during winter and summer break. All you need to do is flash your student ID at the front desk and you’re in. You can check out basketballs and other equipment to use in many open gyms. Continue reading UWGB – What I do for fun!

MAJOR TALK: Undecided is OKAY!

When I first came to UWGB back in 2006, I was told by students, professors, and advisors that not having a Major in mind was okay. In fact it was a good thing. Why is that a good thing you say? Wouldn’t it be better to have a plan and know what you want to exactly do before you enter college? Well, it’s a fact that many students end up changing their minds once or twice anyways once they are in college. I’m not saying that having a plan is bad, because I’ve seen people have a dream in High School and stick with it through college. But, if you don’t have a clue, you are definitely not alone and a Major will find you. It is kind of weird how it works, but somehow something shows up and takes you in a path that you never thought you would go down. Continue reading MAJOR TALK: Undecided is OKAY!

Cofrin Library

What place on campus do you think has the most visitors this time of year? Yep…you guessed it, it’s the library. With exams and finals next week, students will be having a date with their books this Saturday night instead of their significant other.

The Cofrin Library at UWGB has 8 floors but there are only really 6 that are important to students. Continue reading Cofrin Library

Jingle Bell Run/ Walk

For 15 years now in the cold month of December, the UWGB trails fill with runners and walkers of all kinds to fight arthritis, the nation’s most common cause of disability.

A few days ago on Saturday December 6th, the Kress Events Center gave host to the start of the annual 5 k run/ walk. I personally attended the event for the second year in a row and braved the cold weather with hundreds of others for a good cause. Registration started at 8 AM and the run/ walk started at 9 AM. Each participant received jingle bells for the walk and a shirt. Before the gun went off you were able to get a free massage to get your muscles loose or you could grab a hot cup of cocoa or coffee. ‘Tis The Season To Be A Phoenix

Final exams are just around the corner and the holidays are quickly approaching. Campus is becoming a dizzy, busy mix of break-anxious and stressed out students. To cure some of these emotions, UWGB started its holiday celebrations this week- and if you ask me- it was just in the nick of time.

For me it started Monday. My on-campus job in the Dean of Students Office called for some office decorating! As the student workers went through boxes of ornaments decorating trees, the university staff in the office played Christmas music and we all talked about family traditions and what presents we were most excited to give to others. Off-Campus Dining

I few weeks ago I mentioned all of the great food choices here on the UWGB campus and this week I will share with you some near-by off campus options.

UWGB is a great campus; it is secluded from any other homes or businesses in Green Bay. If you are planning to have a car with you at school, then you will be able to take advantage of a short drive to some great off campus dining options if you are looking for a change of pace from the food on campus. Signing Up For Classes

Signing up for classes is pretty easy. If you are going to be a new student at UWGB, you will probably be signing up for your first semester of classes during the FOCUS program in early summer. You will have very helpful people walk you through the process there, but I will give you a little look inside the process of signing up for classes each semester.
