Happy Finals Week!
Hey everybody, I hope the last days of classes were good and study days effective. Good luck during finals and have a fun and safe winter break!
A quick update from SGA, congratulations to Ben Schmidt who was recently appointed and confirmed as the Chief Justice of the Student Court. Ben will beb in charge of over-seeing the SGA elections in spring. He’s the most senior member of the court and will be graduating this May. Kervin and I are sure his time in the new leadership role will be handled flawlessly.
This semester saw the passing of an updated smoking policy. As of now, the policy has been sent to the other campus governance groups and we should have the final word on the policy in March. We also saw the most successful election in UWGB’s history. Roughly 65% of on-campus students voted on-campus! I want to thank Jamie Froh, Chair of University Governance, for overseeing this project. She did an amazing job. We’ve also been fervently working to implement new policies regarding SUFAC. As a result of the Court case earlier this year, it’s become obvious to everyone that things need to be updated, and Senate, SUFAC, and the Executive leadership are all working to make sure everyone is happy with the SUFAC process. We’ve also begun discussions on renewing the U-Pass for next year. From July through November, the U-Pass has been utilized over 21,000 times!
Normally, Spring is a hard semester to get things done. its shorter, people are getting ready to graduate and there is a change in leadership. That is NOT how this year is going to go! We plan to continue the good work that has been done thus far, and to make even more happen to benefit the students of UWGB.
Again, good luck with finals, and have a fun and safe break!

Although we believe SGA has taken some proactive steps in addressing the segregrated fee fiasco, we are disheartened to observe SUFAC’s flagrant disrespect for SGA rules and UW-System policies.
Not only are SUFAC minutes conveniently missing from the SGA website, there appears to be no audio or tape recording of SUFAC’s deliberations throughout the year. It seems that the Student Court’s recommendations in BSU v. SUFAC were not only tossed aside but blatantly disregarded. This is a grave disservice to all student organizations, especially those orgs that have struggled to gain funding. The evolving acidic nature of SUFAC, in particular the Chair, is unnecessary and remains unaddressed. As a natural result, there are several orgs already discussing appeal options.
With a topic as controversial as seg fees, it seems apparent that SGA has, once again, dropped the ball. Clearly, a change in leadership is needed in SUFAC and SGA. A small group of attentive students will continue to monitor the SGA website for updated SUFAC minutes and if need be, lobby Student Senators for the removal of the SUFAC Chair and Vice Chair.
It is extremely disappointing to observe no change on this front. We encourage those fervent student’s within SGA to continue to make strides which reform the allocation of seg fees and to respectfully confront those leaders with large egos and petty agendas.
