Audition Information

Auditions for Searching for Romeo will take place Wednesday, April 25, and Thursday, April 26, starting at 6:00, in the Jean Weidner Theatre on the UWGB campus. Callbacks will be Saturday, April 28, starting at 2:00, in the UWGB Choir Room, Studio Arts B101. Performers will be asked to read from scenes from the play and sing about 32 bars from a song of their choice. For an electronic copy of the scenes to be used during auditions or of the entire script, contact Brian Sutton at the email address listed at the end of this post. The music in Searching for Romeo is more light pop than operatic, and performers might keep this in mind when selecting an audition piece. A piano accompanist will be provided; performers should bring sheet music for the accompanist. Dance (or at least movement) will be part of the callbacks, but not part of the initial auditions. Callbacks will also involve reading from scenes from Searching for Romeo and singing portions of songs from Searching for Romeo. These scenes and songs will be sent electronically, in advance, to those selected for callbacks.

We’ll be casting eight males and eight females, with some of those cast playing more than one role. About half the characters in the play are in their teens or early twenties, while the rest are for the most part middle-aged.

The first rehearsal will be Tuesday, May 29. Performances will be Thursday through Saturday, July 12-14, in the Jean Weidner Theatre.
