Registration is $22 before November 23rd and all participants will receive a long sleeve T-shirt with registration! The run/walk starts at 9 a.m. sharp and at 9:45 a.m. they will be having a post event celebration with hot soup and refreshments. Watch for the link to join our team in Psi Chi’s monthly email to members. If you have any questions about the event, please contact Molly Swenty at swenmm10@uwgb.edu.

Holiday Celebration, December 10th, 4-6pm in MAC 210

Molly Swenty/President

Cynthia Sanchez/Vice President

Areanna Lakowske/Secretary

Emily Vogels/Treasurer

Becky Senn/Officer of Communications

We are all super excited for Psi Chi this year! Here are some upcoming events that we hope you attend!

Oct. 8th @4pm in the Vista Conference Room: We will be having our general meeting and introducing our Professor of the Month! The Professor of the Month is new to Psi Chi this year. We will be picking our Professor of Month and inviting them to present at our Psi Chi meetings on any research they are conducting or other experiences they would like to share. Attend the meeting and find out who the Professor will be!

This one is a jump ahead, but it’s so exciting we need to bring it up now!

May 2-4, MPA in Chicago: MPA is an annual meeting, held in Chicago, that features research from leading psychologists across the nation. Students are invited to present their own work at MPA. If you would like more information on how YOU can present at MPA, please email myself (swenmm10@uwgb.edu) or Dr. Gurung for more information. The submission deadline is November 11, 2012. Details and instructions are available here.  Remember, you do not need to have data collected by the time you send in your proposal.

Every year MPA has a distinguished speaker for the year’s annual meeting. This year Albert Bandura has been announced as the distinguished speaker. As if presenting your own work weren’t enough or meeting numerous leading psychologists from across the nation, you ALSO can get a chance to listen to and meet Albert Bandura.

Once again, if you have any questions about Psi Chi, please feel free to contact me at swenmm10@uwgb.edu.

Psi Chi Updates

Hello Psi Chi members! First I would like to welcome our 27 new members; we look forward to getting to know you!

Our upcoming events are:

Journal Club: 10/27, 11/10, 12/1, 12/8 all @ 5:30 in the Fireside Room in the Mauthe Center (the Ecumenical Center) – there will be a new topic each journal club, and that topic will be sent out a week before we meet, so that if you are interested in joining us for that week, we can get you the links to the articles (usually 2, not too long). This is a pretty informal gathering where we read some fun articles and spend some time chatting about them. This week’s (10/27) topic is behaviorism. If you would like to come this week, please send an e-mail to florkj22@uwgb.edu, and I’ll get you the articles!

Victoria’s Dinner: 11/11/11 @ 6:00 – Victoria’s is a delicious Italian restaurant very close to campus. We do this each semester, as it’s a great way of socializing with other Psi Chi members and especially for getting to know our new members! If you are interested in joining us or have more questions, please e-mail florkj22@uwgb.edu. Please RSVP by 11/9 so we have an idea on numbers. Members will receive a Psi Chi email invitation to the dinner next week, and you can RSVP by simply responding to that message when you get it.

Meet the Professors Night with PHD Club: date TBD, but will be sometime during the second or third week of November. We will be going bowling at Suamico again; it was a lot of fun last year and we hope that you can join us!

Psi Chi News

Hello and welcome back!

First of all, let me introduce you to the 2011-2012 Psi Chi officers:

Kaitlyn/Kate Florer – President

Erin Ehlers – Vice President

Molly Swenty – Treasurer

Emma Bretl – Secretary

Amber Kasten – Officer of Communications

Psi Chi is adding some new types of events to its repertoire, and we hope you’ll join us! Here are some of our upcoming events:

October 6th @ 4:00 pm: First Journal Club Meeting – We will be reading and discussing an article in a casual and enjoyable setting. More information about this will be coming out soon, so keep an eye on your e-mail, facebook, orgsync, etc.

Grant Writing Workshop: This workshop will be ongoing throughout the school year, and those who wish to participate in it will meet either once or twice a month as needed. Psi Chi is an international society, and it has a lot of money that it loves giving away to students for research or award purposes. Writing a grant is definitely a challenge and requires a fair amount of time and dedication, but that is why we created the workshop. The purpose of the workshop is to meet with fellow Psi Chi members who are working on their grants. This way we can ask each other questions, bounce ideas off each other, peer review drafts, and hold each other accountable on meeting deadlines. We recently had our first meeting, but if you are interested in this group/workshop, please let me (Kaitlyn) know ASAP!

Invitations to new invitees went out this last week. We hope to have you all join us as fellow Psi Chi members! If you have any questions about Psi Chi, please feel free to contact me at florkj22@uwgb.edu
