December 15th, 2009Dialogues
November 21st, 2009Chancellor Harden recently published the first edition of Conversations, his newsletter. His intent is to make a publication that is not a one-way
communication from the chancellor’s office, but rather a vehicle that facilitates engagement, solicits opinions and encourages involvement. I
liked the idea well enough to “steal” it for this column. Dialogues, is intended to engage and encourage opinions and involvement. In each installment, I will give you a brief update on what has been happening in the Library
and offer you a chance to let us know what you think about the issues facing the Library.
The full version of this article can be found in the Friends’ newsletter, A Chat with Friends, which should be hitting your mailbox soon. In there I mentioned that the library staff are working on a self-study and that we are examining ourselves from three different angles. First is through the services we offer, second is through the collections that we have, and third is through the space that we occupy.
Now is the chance for a dialogue:
How do you feel about the service that we provide? Is there are service that you would like to see us offer that we don’t, is there are time you wish we offered a service that we are not, or have you ever wondered why we are still doing something after all of these years?
What do you think about our collections? Are we collecting the right materials, do we have too much in one area and not enough in another, or just simply are we meeting your needs?
Tell us what you think about the the physical space that the library has. Do you think it is used properly, do we have too much or not enough study space, is there a kind of space that we should have that we don’t?
