Birth control misinformation – Fog Zone

* 36% of young adults say it’s likely that the pill will cause them to gain weight

* 40% of young adults say birth control causes severe mood swings

* 50% of young adults believe that it is somewhat likely to get cancer or a related serious health risk when using the pill

* 59% of women and 47% of men say it is at least slightly likely they are infertile (reality: 8%)

* Among people who use the pill, 44% of them incorrectly believe that they need to take a break from the pill for a few years

* 40% of women who relied on the rhythm method or natural family planning do not know when they’re the most fertile

* 30% of young, unmarried women believe that it is quite that it is quite/extremely likely to get an infection from using an IUD

* 42% of men and 40% of women believe the chance of getting pregnant within a year while using the pill is 50% greater BUT research suggests the pill is 92% effective

* 38% of men and 44% of women believe that “it doesn’t matter whether you use birth control or not… when it is your time to get pregnant, it will happen”
