UW-Green Bay grief support group hosts Memorial Garden planting event

A University of Wisconsin-Green Bay grief support group will host the third annual planting of the campus Memorial Garden from noon-2 p.m. Wednesday, April 25 in front of the University Union on campus, 2420 Nicolet Drive.

The UW-Green Bay chapter of Students of AMF, a nationwide grief support group, is hosting the event, which is open to all students, faculty and staff. The event will begin with a short ceremony including music, speeches from the group officers and remarks from UW-Green Bay Chancellor Thomas K. Harden. Attendees will be invited to plant a flower — provided, along with tools, by Students of AMF — and their loved one’s names will be read aloud.

The planting will be followed by a luncheon, expected to last until 2 p.m. In case of inclement weather, the ceremony will be held in the 1965 Room of the University Union. There is no cost to attend the event.

Last year’s Memorial Garden planting drew 180 attendees, said group member and UW-Green Bay student Erin Ehlers. This year’s event, being held early due to a warmer-than-usual spring, also coincides with National College Student Grief Awareness Week April 22-27.
