It wouldn’t be Commencement Day without mortarboard messages, fancy footwear and the occasional neon-green trousers or orange pumps. Clearly, graduation at UW-Green Bay on Saturday, May 12, was more than a formal black-robe affair.

Chancellor Thomas K. Harden opened the ceremony by observing that it is the biggest and happiest day of the year at UW-Green Bay… and he got that right! Spring Commencement 2012 was held Saturday, May 12, at the Kress Events Center on campus.

Longtime UW-Green Bay faculty member Denise Scheberle recently earned a nationwide teaching award from the American Political Science Association. It’s a remarkable honor — perhaps even more so because Scheberle didn’t set out to become a teacher at all.

It was a wonderful night and warm atmosphere when UW-Green Bay alumni were recognized for their distinguished accomplishments at Alumni Awards Night Saturday, April 28, at the Weidner Center for the Performing Arts. Distinguished Alumni honorees Maria Hinton ’79 and Dr. Mokenge Malafa ’82 were honored, along with Outstanding Recent Alumni Award recipients Jacqueline Frank ’00 and Dr. Laura Rammer ’01.

UW-Green Bay’s Environmental Management and Business Institute (EMBI) had another successful event with the 2012 installment of its annual Earth Week symposium. Titled “Water — Yesterday, Today and Tomorrow,” this year’s conference gave attendees an avenue to think about environmental concerns in a sustainable manner.
