Internship Opportunity for Fall 2013
Alternative Recess at Foxview Intermediate School
Foxview Intermediate School in East DePere is seeking responsible and dependable college students to assist with our Alternative Lunch/Recess Program. Foxview is made up of 5th and 6th grade students. The Alternative Lunch/Recess is a smaller setting for lunch and recess, allowing students to make more connections with peers, connect with adults, practice social skills, and feel included. Students can play games, talk, or do homework. The adult supervisors spend time talking with students, playing games with them, and supervising the group as a whole.
The time commitment would be 11:00 am to 12:45 pm two days per week. In addition, interns work in other ways at the school (like shadowing the school counselor and psychologists) to earn their 100 hours total for the 3 credit internship. These are not paid positions, but it is a great internship opportunity. Alternative Lunch/Recess is a fun, relaxed environment to get to know some kids and practice your skills.
If you’re interested and would be able to intern for 2 days (lunch periods) per week for the Fall 2013 semester, please contact Professor Georjeanna Wilson-Doenges by email at wilsong@uwgb.edu to receive an application. (Cheryl Crozier, a UWGB alumna, is the field supervisor for this Internship.) All applications are due to Dr. Wilson-Doenges by April 3, 2013. A short list of applicants will be interviewed the week of April 8th.
**You must meet the qualifications for a Psychology or Human Development Internship – check out the website for details at http://www.uwgb.edu/Psychology/internships/index.htm

Would you like to help host 1,400 young students on campus this fall? As you think about your course options for fall, please consider applying for the 3-credit Phuture Phoenix internship. This internship is an excellent opportunity to see how the planning and operations of a large-scale educational intervention work and to learn more about working with “at-risk” youth. The main experience for the fall will relate to the fifth grade field trip in October. You are offered a behind-the-scenes experience in planning a large scale event and you will work closely with the Director and Associate Director in preparing for the two day event. Phuture Phoenix is a donor funded program with a small staff so your experience will give you an idea of the way a small non-profit works in the community.

Collaborate with one other human development\psychology student in running a student group at Preble High School called FLITE. FLITE was created as an afterschool group to inform students about the possibilities for their education following high school. This group meets once a week and interns will lead the group as well as bring in guest speakers to talk to the students about their career and education.

Tutor\mentor students in a Phuture Phoenix middle or high school. Following the field trip days, work in small groups or in classes with students in need of additional academic help. Students who are interested in school counseling or school psychology might find the internship particularly helpful, but students with a variety of career goals have benefitted from the experience.

There are prerequisites for completing a Human Development or Psychology internship, including Junior or Senior standing and a cumulative GPA of 3.0 or higher. A full list of prerequisites and information about internship requirements (e.g., 100 hours, journal) can be found on the department websites (http://www.uwgb.edu/psychology/internships/index.htm or http://www.uwgb.edu/humdev/internships/policy.asp). Please review this information carefully before expressing interest in the internship. A background check and TB test are required—paperwork for this will need to be submitted in the summer to be sure that students are ready to go in the beginning of September. The days\times the internship hours are flexible—required dates will be Tuesday and Thursday, October 8 and 10 for the field trip days.

You can find out more about Phuture Phoenix by visiting: http://www.uwgb.edu/phuturephoenix/

If you are interested in applying for this internship opportunity, please contact Stephanie Cataldo-Pabich, Phuture Phoenix Associate Director to learn more about the application and selection process. Her email address is: pabichs@uwgb.edu. If you have questions about the academic credit portion of the experience (e.g., credits, prerequisites), feel free to contact Dr. Vespia (vespiak@uwgb.edu).

Agency: Phuture Phoenix
Topic: Education program for At-risk students
Duties: Tutor and mentor at-risk students in a middle or high school setting, help local high school students learn more about different types of careers by coordinating a program at a local high school called FLITE, and assist with donor\scholarship event. Great for any student interested in “real world” experience with diverse students in our local schools, as well as work in behind-the-scenes aspects of a large education program. See www.uwgb.edu/phuturephoenix for more details about the program. This internship will give you an idea of the way a small non-profit works in the community because Phuture Phoenix is a donor funded program with a small staff. Students who are interested in school counseling or school psychology might find the internship particularly helpful, but students with a variety of career goals have benefitted from the experience.

Pre-reqs: Interest in working with at-risk middle or high school students. There are also prerequisites for completing a Human Development or Psychology internship, including Junior or Senior standing and a cumulative GPA of 3.0 or higher. A full list of prerequisites and information about internship requirements (e.g., 100 hours, journal) can be found on the Psychology and Human Development department websites. Please review this information carefully before expressing interest in the internship. A background check and TB test are also required for this experience. The days/times the internship hours are flexible.

Are you interested in counseling, school psychology, social work, or teaching? Are you interested in gaining some experience working with early adolescents?

Foxview Intermediate School in East DePere is seeking responsible and dependable college students to assist with our Alternative Lunch/Recess Program. Foxview is made up of 5th and 6th grade students. The Alternative Lunch/Recess is a smaller setting for lunch and recess, allowing students to make more connections with peers, connect with adults, practice social skills, and feel included. Students can play games, talk, or do homework. The adult supervisors spend time talking with students, playing games with them, and supervising the group as a whole.

The time commitment would be 11:00 am to 12:45 pm two days per week. In addition, interns work in other ways at the school to earn their 100 hours total for the 3 credit internship. These are not paid positions, but it is a great internship opportunity. Alternative Lunch/Recess is a fun, relaxed environment to get to know some kids and practice your skills.

If you’re interested and would be able to intern for 2 days (lunch periods) per week for the Spring 2013 semester, please contact Professor Georjeanna Wilson-Doenges by email at wilsong@uwgb.edu to receive an application. (Cheryl Crozier, a UWGB alumna, is the field supervisor for this Internship.) All applications are due to Dr. Wilson-Doenges by noon on November 2, 2012. A short list of applicants will be interviewed the week of November 5th.

**You must meet the qualifications for a Psychology or Human Development Internship – check out the website for details at http://www.uwgb.edu/Psychology/internships/index.htm
