Brown County UW-Extension and 4-H are currently recruiting and accepting applications for the 2014-15 Yearlong AmeriCorps VISTA position. VISTA is Volunteer in Service to America – and is like the Peace Corps, except here in Green Bay.
This position is perfect for someone who is looking to build a resume in youth work in any capacity – education, social work, non-profit management, psychology and sociology, youth development – the list goes on! Throughout the year, the goal of the position is to integrate science, technology, engineering and math (STEM), nutrition education/food and physical activity, and workforce development skills (21st Century Skills) into out-of-school time programming opportunities for youth and adults throughout the year.
The VISTA does not receive a paycheck, but does get a living allowance of about $950 per month, student loan deferment, and the BIG incentive: a large, $4,725 educational award at the end of 1 year of service.
Position timeframe: August 12, 2014-August 11, 2015. Typical hours are Monday-Friday 8:00-4:30, with occasional evenings and weekends. Student loan deferment, health insurance and other benefits may be available. VISTA members may have NO other employment during service.
