UW-Green Bay employees are invited to attend a variety of informational workshops to assist you in your role at UW-Green Bay.  You will learn about services on campus you may not be aware of, discover helpful tips and resources available to you, and become knowledgeable about important campus policies and best practices. You are welcome to attend one, some or all of the following workshops.

Monday, September 10, 2012
1:00 to 3:00 p.m.
Hiring & Retention (geared toward faculty and academic staff searches): This training will help you to find and select the best candidate for your job opening, and create a welcoming and rewarding work environment that makes your new employee want to stay. UW System experts, Matt Lind and Chris Ashley will discuss best practices in recruiting and hiring, immigration, and how we can do a better job of retaining our valuable employees.

Information Services: Academic Technology Services (ATS) and the Help Desk – what services can they provide to you, where can you find more information about them, and who can you contact if you need help?

WISDM: The WISDM (Wisconsin Data Mart for PeopleSoft Financials) is a reporting tool used to view the fiscal activity for departments and project/grants on campus. The information contained in WISDM is extracted from the PeopleSoft Shared Financial System (SFS) on a nightly basis, and includes current year as well as prior year activity.  Activity for deposits, purchase orders, journal uploads (chargebacks), expense reports and payroll information can all be obtained from WISDM. SuAnn Detampel, Interim Controller, will present an online demonstration of WISDM, and answer your questions.

Information Security: Find out what the “bad guys” on the Internet want to steal from you and what you should do to prevent this from happening.  Topics to be covered include common attack methods, simple methods to thwart these attacks, and information sharing guidelines and policies.  The information shared will be useful in the workplace and at home.

2:30 to 3:00 p.m.
Keeping Children Safe – Executive Order # 54: Executive Order #54 requires all University of Wisconsin System employees to immediately report child abuse or neglect if the employee, in the course of employment, observes an incident or threat of child abuse or neglect, or learns of an incident or threat of child abuse or neglect, and the employee has reasonable cause to believe that child abuse or neglect has occurred or will occur.  This training will provide an overview of Executive Order # 54, and explain when you should make a report and how to make the report.  You can attend this in-person training in lieu of online Executive Order # 54 d2L training that will be announced shortly to satisfy the training requirement.

Career Progressions: This is an informational session for any academic staff employee that may be interested in learning more about Career Progressions and Title Changes.  The discussion will include such topics as the difference between a career progression and a title change, the eligibility criteria, and an explanation of where to locate and how to complete the request forms.

A Supervisors Guide to FMLA/WFMLA: The Federal Family and Medical Leave Act (FMLA) and the Wisconsin Family and Medical Leave Act (WFMLA) provide employees with the right to take job-protected leave with continued medical benefits when time off from work is needed to care for themselves or a family member who is seriously ill, to care for a newborn or newly adopted child or to attend to the affairs of a family member who is called to active duty in the military. During this training session we will go over who is eligible for this benefit, employee rights and when to contact HR.

Reservations/Event Support/A’viands Catering: Steve Zywicki, Coordinator of Reservations & Event Services, will present information about University Union reservations and event support.  Tammy Swanson, A’viands Catering Director, will share information about A’viands catering and ideas for catering table set up.  Her presentation will also feature taste testing samples to enjoy!

Harassment Prevention Training: Sexual harassment is a form of sex discrimination. State and federal law prohibit sexual harassment both in the workplace and in the academic environment. Attorneys Paige Reed and Matt Lind will cover the law, harassment policies, and the complaint and investigative process.  They will also discuss pertinent scenarios and answer your questions. You can attend this in-person training in lieu of the online Harassment Prevention training to satisfy the training requirement.
