Our first Summer Housing Assistant spotlight shines bright on Irene Hoang! This is Hoang’s first year as a SHA but she has worked with housing previously as an office assistant and in the mailroom.

Hoang wanted to become as SHA because “I really like all the opportunities that it provides. The SHA position accompanies all the roles (in housing), Resident Assistant, Community Advisor, and mailroom. Being a SHA helps me develop skills and skill sets I can use in the future,” Hoang said.

So far Hoang’s favorite part of being a SHA is getting to work with her fellow SHA’s and the Pro staff in Residence Life. She also enjoys being able to live on campus.

During her time as a SHA, Hoang hopes to continue to develop her professional skills as well as expand leadership roles as a RA by being responsible for large groups of people.

Hoang is an English major with a double emphasis in literature and education and a minor in education. “One of my biggest achievements was achieving highest honors (4.0) for both semesters of the 2013-2014 academic year and being inducted into the Sigma Tau Delta Honor Society” Hoang said.

In her free time Hoang enjoys writing, painting, playing video games, and reading, with Lord of the Rings, The Time Travelers Wife and Harry Potter being a few of her favorite books.  She also enjoys singing, saying “I was a part of vocal jazz ensembles through high school and into college and acting. I have been in four plays and several musicals”.

Residence Life is very excited to have Irene Hoang as a SHA this summer. We wish you the best of luck and thank you for everything you do!
