A Farewell and a New Beginning!
Filed in Uncategorized, May 2, 2008, 2:52 pmAs my term as SGA President and my career at UWGB comes to end, I am happy to see the SGA Global blog up and running. This initiative has been in the making for almost a year. Collabortation across campus and across discplines has occured in order to ensure that the student body at UWGB has the opportunity to come together and explore the international world, whether it be through conversations about trips taken, global news, or well-kept worldy secrets and opportunities.
It is my pleasure to hand off this unique gem to the incoming administration. The provisions are in place to make this SGA Global blog a success for years to come. So, please spend some time getting to know the blog. Take advantage of the plethora of information presented to you. Check back frequently because the content will be changing and evolving!
Thank you for being a part of something so groundbreaking. Think global and enjoy!

SGA Global will rock UWGB!
Filed in Uncategorized, April 15, 2008, 3:15 pmThe beauty of the concept is that it will make students much more aware of international resources and opportunities available to them, especially things available outside of UWGB through organizations and initiatives across the nation and around the world. That’s where this will make a big difference. Kudos to Sara Duginske, outgoing SGA president. It was a pleasure kicking ideas around with a worldly student leader. Under her leadership, the Student Senate voted unanimously to approve a resolution endorsing this concept and global perspectives in general. Kudos also to incoming SGA leaders Ricky Staley and Kervin Blanke, who voiced their support of SGA Global almost immediately after being elected.
To the best of my knowledge, nothing quite like SGA Global exists on any other campus in the U.S. The famous naturalist and John Muir once said, “Most people are on the world, not in it.” Our hope is that SGA Global will get more UWGB students out into the world, in thought and in action.

Signs Seen Abroad
Filed in Uncategorized, , 10:55 amWe know that the majority of Americans are not proficient in languages other than English. We also know that English is a difficult second language to learn. A sense of humor helps, regardless of who and where.
- Seen in a Bangkok dry cleaner’s: “Drop your trousers here for best results.”
- Seen on a menu in Switzerland: “Our wines leave you nothing to hope for.”
Personally, I am very excited…
Filed in Uncategorized, March 13, 2008, 3:28 pmPersonally, I am very excited that SGA have started this important initiative and I hope that it becomes a great meeting place for every one interested in the world beyond Green Bay and Wisconsin. The more I learn about the world, the more interested in international affairs I become. As someone who teaches about other countries (and I teach global politics, international relations and various comparative politics classes here at UWGB), I would like to invite all members of our university community, especially students, to get involved in the SGA Global and start thinking globally!
