Plan to attend the upcoming UWGB Job Fair next Wednesday, February 27th, 2013. Integrys (holding company of Wisconsin Public Service) is looking to fill these internship positions:
•	1 Programmer Analyst intern
•	2 Business Systems Analyst interns
•	1 Compliance intern
•	1 Design Analyst intern
These positions would start this summer on a full time basis, and are year round positions that transition to part time during the school year to fit around the student’s class schedule. These are paid positions and with a great company that has an excellent reputation for outstanding internships.

Andrew Hybert and Brandon Dutton (current Computer Science majors) are in intern roles, and both have already been offered full time positions upon graduation. The experience has been second to none, as they describe it. Integrys currently employs 9 IT interns out of their Green Bay office, and 5 of them are UWGB students.

Corey Nease graduated from UWGB and moved from an intern into a full time position with Integrys. He encouraged students at the Fall job fair and here are some things he said in a past email to UWGB students and professors…
Some of the things they’re looking for at Integrys:
•	Software Design 1 and 2 completed.
•	Database class is a plus, but by no means required (I didn’t have it when I was hired).
•	At least a year until graduation.
o	As long as the student is a sophomore, they don’t care how long they have left until graduation.
•	20ish hours during the school year and 40 hours during breaks.
Some of the benefits of working as an Intern:
•	They pay the interns very well.
•	They let you work on projects that are meaningful to the company.
•	They will take time to teach you any skill you’re lacking.
•	They work with your school schedule
•	Very good chance of getting a job after graduation. (We hire Interns with the intention of hiring if possible.)
The Job Fair is Wednesday (2/27/2013). In addition, Integrys will be doing interviews on Friday the 1st on the UWGB campus.

The folks at the Georgia Robotics and InTelligent Systems (Grits) Lab at Georgia Tech have been hard at work for some time now researching swarm robots. A portion of said work deals with tasks that require a group of hi-tech gadgets to individually reach a location and a specific time — much like the mobile landing platform that we saw last year.
The group is given a “score” and must determine how many of the Khepera robots are needed to meet the goal, assigning specific roles and determining the shortest route to hitting their targets. One particular demo that we saw involved the swarm bots playing a projected piano of sorts to perform a short snippet of Beethoven’s “Fur Elise” — internal cameras, special “hats” and cameras mounted around the room lend a hand in carrying out the assigned duties.

Musical performance is just one of the projects underway in the GritsLab. A real-world scenario involves the use of swarm robots for convoy cover. Using Parrot AR.Drones alongside the diminutive machines that we saw in action, researchers are looking at ways in which UAVs can be deployed to investigate and eliminate threats to convoys on the ground. This allows for the convoy to take an alternate route if needed while remaining under the watch of at least one UAV. For a look at the aforementioned classically scored action, jump down past the break to take a gander.

IBM Research, in collaboration with DARPA’s Systems of Neuromorphic Adaptive Plastic Scalable Electronics (SyNAPSE) program, has reached another brain simulation milestone. Powered by its new TrueNorth system on the world’s second fastest supercomputer, IBM was capable of crafting a 2.084 billion neurosynaptic cores and 100 trillion synapses — all at a speed “only” 1,542 times slower than real life.
The abstract explains that this isn’t a biologically realistic simulation of the human brain, but rather mathematically abstracted — and little more dour — versions steered towards maximizing function and minimizing cost. DARPA’s SyNAPSE project aims to tie together supercomputing, neuroscience and neurotech for a future cognitive computing architecture far beyond what’s running behind your PC screen at the moment. Want to know more? We’ve included IBM’s video explanation of cognitive computing after the break.

The Queen always keeps up with the latest technology, and today she’ll try to squeeze a Galaxy Note 10.1 into her handbag. The tablet represents a “digital time-capsule,” and will be loaded with multimedia clippings — submitted by people from all over the world — detailing history during her reign. A total of 60 video, audio and text entries were selected from 80,000 (150GB-worth), but all of that data will eventually be added to an online archive called the “Diamond (re)Collection.” The project was orchestrated by The Royal Commonwealth Society, which briefly considered using an iPad, but ultimately decided Samsung’s slate was the more regal (even if it is less cool). It leaves us wondering — will the next Royal Decree be signed with an S-Pen?
