Event Overview:
Dr. Stuart Robertshaw, Professor Emeritus of Psychology and Education at the University of Wisconsin-La Crosse and an Attorney, will share his personal journey which began in September, 1987 when he started a review of the research on the benefits of humor. On June 28, 1990, he announced the formation of the National Association for the Humor Impaired. The Association has received national attention from the press in over 144 newspapers, 180 radio stations and has been featured in magazines such as Family Circle and Mature Outlook. Dr. Robertshaw, whom the press refers to as “Dr. Humor,” currently serves as President and Chief Executive Officer of the Association. Dr. Robertshaw will share with you what he has learned about the psychological and physiological benefits of humor and laughter as they relate to taking care of our ourselves, our friends and our loved ones.

I’ve worked here for 1-1/2 years, and I run the mailroom, surplus, and shipping & receiving departments.  Before that I worked in the building industry and was an auto mechanic.

I would describe a perfect day at work as…..
Being busy all day, sun shining, and at the end of the day everyone is happy because I was able to help them. Then I go fishing.

My “undercover” dream job would be…..
As a professional hunting guide

The chore I hate doing the most is…..
Shoveling snow

My perfect meal would be…..
A medium rare rib eye, baked potato, grilled asparagus, and wine

What can you tell us about your family?
Both of my parents are living. I have a brother and a sister (I am the baby). I have been married to my high school girlfriend for 17 years. I have a son and a daughter (Griffen and Madison), 2 dogs, and 2 cats.

My hobbies and favorite pastime activities are…..
Hunting, fishing, wood working, and fixing anything that is broke

My special personal accomplishments are…..
I have a world class buck and small mouth bass on the wall. I am still looking for that big walleye.

The person who has impacted my life the most so far is…..
My wife, sounds corny, but she has made me what I am today.

I love to cook.

New Personnel System Website

 The 2011-13 biennial budget (Act 32 of 2011) created s. 36.115, authorizing and directing the development of two distinct new personnel systems (human resource related policies and procedures) separate from the existing personnel system under ch. 230, one for all UW-Madison employees and one for the balance of all University of Wisconsin System employees. These new personnel systems will encompass policies and procedures for both unclassified and classified employment categories.  A website has been developed to communicate the development of this new system, which is located at http://web.uwsa.edu/personnelsystems/.

Work groups covering the topics of benefits, compensation, employee environment, employee movement, employee categories and recruitment and assessment have recently been established to obtain feedback about potential policies and procedures for the new system. The following UW-Green Bay employees are serving on four of these work groups:  

Benefits – Cliff Abbott, Secretary of the Faculty and Academic Staff and Professor in Computing Science

Compensation – Sheryl Van Gruensven, Director of Human Resources

Employee Movement – Eileen Kolb, Advisor, Registrar Office

Employment Categories – Joe Schoenebeck, Laboratory Preparation Technician, NAS
