Don’t let the number of tweets in the FDC14 backchannel (#uwgbfdc) fool you. What it lacks in ┬ávolume, it makes up in insight.

From the early moments of the keynote by Dr. Barbara Walvoord, Professor Emerita of the University of Notre Dame, there were tweets flying on the topic of Assessment.

Walvoord called for a change of perspective on assessment from meeting requirements and proving we’re doing something, to finding something to improve.

Another major theme of Dr. Walvoord’s approach to assessment is the importance of faculty-driven change at all levels of the institution.

While the conference title – “Assessment as a Tool for Change” – may not have seemed like the most inspiring topic, the passion and experience of the speakers confounded that expectation.
