The Faculty Development Conference was held Friday, January 24th at UW-Green Bay. Outside it was cold and snowy, but inside it was warm with enthusiasm! I watched as the folks picked up their registration material and moved to the conference center with smiles and eager looks on their faces. I saw many faces that I recognized from our faculty here at UWGB, and many new faces from around the state. The name tags read Saint Norbert College, NWTC, UW Platteville, UW Fox Valley, UW Sheboygan, Bellin College, UW Madison and many more. I was so excited to see the diverse group who gathered to improve themselves and take advantage of a great learning opportunity!I could see people tweeting the event and taking notes as our keynote speaker led an interesting and insightful kick off speech. Dr. Barbara Walvoord discussed Assessment in Higher Education, a topic that is not easily digestible, and for people like myself, needs an interpreter to understand. She brought it down to a very tangible level that made it easy to understand. In addition to the keynote presentation, there were 10 other breakout sessions to choose from. The variety was great and allowed each participant to choose what events they wanted to participate in. At lunch we had a great speaker in Stefan Hall whose Scottish accent had me laughing (with food in my mouth)! I sat with a group from different campuses across the state. They were so appreciative of the opportunity to be included in the conference. Some had attended in the past and others just recently learned of the conference. I am excited to begin planning next year’s conference and look forward to seeing everyone back again in 2015!
