2:00—4:00 International French Film “The Grocers Son”
Christie Theatre
This French drama centers on Antoine (Nicolas Cazale), a 30-year-old city dweller who is forced to return to the country when his father falls ill. He takes over his father’s job as a grocery cart driver and brings the far-flung residents the things they need. But thanks to the presence of his crush Claire (Clotilde Hesme) and a growing friendship with the local people, he realizes that there may be more to the life he thought he’d left behind. Eric Guirado (QUAND TU DESCENDRAS DU CIEL) directs this sweet film that won many hearts when it played in its native country.

A strait-laced French student moves into an apartment in Barcelona with a cast of six other characters from all over Europe. Together, they speak the international language of love and friendship.

6:30—8:30 International German Film, “Emma’s Bliss”
Christie Theatre
Max, a car salesman, has been diagnosed with cancer and faced with the knowledge
that he doesn’t have much longer to live. He impulsively steals money and a car and
sets out to flee. By chance he encounters Emma, an eccentric young woman who
lives alone on a farm with a different conception of life and death. Director Sven
Taddicken’s odd and wondrous film about death and dying pointedly contrasts
Western medicine’s sometimes intrusive approach to prolonging life by any
means necessary with a graceful acceptance of the inevitable.
