Just for the HEALTH of It! – a free health and wellness fair for academic staff – will be held on Thursday, May 24 at the Kress Events Center. Motivational speaker Dr. Jack Curtis will stimulate our minds into healthy thinking, and A’viands Dietician Jill Roup will stimulate our appetites with healthy eating options. Lunch will be provided. The fair will also feature local vendors, door prizes, breakout sessions on yoga, the chance to try out Kress’s climbing wall, and a behind the scenes facility tour.

“Just for the HEALTH of it!” will include a healthy food presentation with A’vainds dietitian Jill Roup. Boxed lunches will be served following the presentation, that Jill will modify to be healthy: Turkey, Ham, or Veggie Wrap on whole wheat with fruit, high-fiber whole grain bar, and milk, water, or juice.
Registration is required to receive a boxed lunch. Quantity is limited.

He is a Professor Emeritus of Health Promotion and is the author of 12 books. In his presentations he draws on his 30 years of teaching experience to deliver uplifting, educational messages with the perfect blend of humor. His message focuses on how we can improve performance by altering our attitudes.

For those who sign up for StrenghtsQuest™ (during the registration process), Academic Staff will purchase an access code to participate in an online evaluation.
StrenghtsQuest™ begins with an online assessment that takes about 30 minutes called the Clifton StrengthsFinder. After completing the assessment, participants will receive a customized report that lists their top five talent themes, along with action items for development and suggestions about how you can use your talents to achieve academic, career, and personal success.
Those who sign up for StrengthsQuest will be sent their unique code via e-mail after registration has closed. The assessment can be completed individually at your convenience or you may join us during the “Just for the HEALTH of it!” conference to complete the assessment as a group. We have general access computer lab A (IS 1129A) reserved for this purpose at 2:30pm on Thursday, May 24, 2012

- Skill level: beginner
- 28 feet, six rope station climbing tower
- Rock climbing shoes are provided
- Wear comfortable exercise clothing
- Bringing a water bottle is always encouraged!
- You do have to sign a release form in order to climb
Yoga
Challenge and connect your mind and body with yoga poses, conscious breathing and relaxation techniques! Remember – yoga is an individual practice, where all judgment, competition and expectations are let go, and the focus is internal on your own practice that day.

LTC (Ret.) Cynthia Rasmussen
LTC (Ret.) Rasmussen will speak about service member/veteran and family reintegration issues; warrior skills versus home/school skills; and will review Combat Operational Stress Reaction, post-traumatic stress disorder (PTSD) and traumatic brain injury (TBI) among other behavioral health issues.
LTC (Ret.) Rasmussen served as a Mental Health Nurse in the Army Reserves for 23 years and has spoken nationally about veteran issues. She is an Adult Nurse Practitioner working for the Veterans Administration and received her Bachelor’s and Master’s Degrees in Nursing from Marquette University, Milwaukee, Wisconsin.
