Help Brian Sutton Finance ‘Searching for Romeo’

Wednesday, May 7th, 2014

brian sutton by searching for romeo posterA play by UWGB English faculty member Brian Sutton is headed for New York City—and Prof. Sutton is seeking your help in financing the production. Sutton’s musical comedy Searching for Romeo, which premiered with a sold-out run and standing ovations in July 2012 at UWGB’s Jean Weidner Theatre, has been named an official selection of the New York Musical Theatre’s 2014 Next Link Project. In the past decade, former New York Theatre Festival shows have been performed in 24 countries and on Broadway, winning awards such as the Pulitzer Prize for Drama and the Tony Award for Best Musical. Searching for Romeo will receive a professional production with five performances this coming July at a 42nd Street theatre.

Although the festival itself provides substantial financial support, Searching for Romeo has an additional budget of almost $75,000. Tax-deductible donations toward defraying production costs may be made through the UW-Green Bay Foundation by clicking on or by going to the Searching for Romeo website at and clicking on “Donate.” The website also contains a wealth of additional information about the play, including recordings of songs from the play and photos from the 2012 production on the UWGB campus.

Music Faculty

Like a box of sweets, the UWGB Faculty Ensemble will provide an irresistible collection of tasty musical treats on Friday, March 28 at 7 pm at the Prince of Peace Church in Sturgeon Bay.

While their name implies the embodiment of a collection of artists performing together en masse, the UWGB Faculty Ensemble members have such a wide range of capability, in so many different musical niches that their shows are more like a talent revue. At their upcoming Sturgeon Bay concert, you can expect to hear “musical compositions that span history from the 16th century to current Broadway pops,” says vocalist Sarah Meredith Livingston.

The ensemble artists are drawn from current UWGB music faculty and alumni that include: Abigail Mace, piano; Courtney Sherman, soprano; Sarah Meredith Livingston, mezzosoprano; Adam Gaines, trumpet; Eric Hansen, clarinet and Chris Salerno, jazz vocalist/piano. They will be joined by David Robertson, baritone, former music teacher at Sturgeon Bay high school and UWGB alum, now teaching in Algoma. Together, their individual interests and musical specialties permit them to provide audience members with a delightful and diverse sampling that ranges from classical and jazz to contemporary original works.

The University of Wisconsin Green Bay Faculty Chamber Ensemble plans to perform a delightful repertoire that will include:

Toccata in D major, BWV 912, J.S. Bach (1685-1750)
Abigail Mace, piano

Suite in D, George Frideric Handel (1685-1759)
Adam Gaines, trumpet with Abigail Mace, piano

Premiere Sonata, Francois Devienne (1759-1803)

The Prayer Duet, David Foster, Carole Bayer Sager, Alberto Testa and Tony Renis (Academy Award for Best Original Song in 1999)
Sarah Meredith Livingston, mezzosoprano and David Robertson, baritone with Abigail Mace, piano
