Alumni Awards Recognition Dinner – May 4

You’re cordially invited to the 2013 UW-Green Bay Alumni Association Awards on Saturday, May 4 at the Weidner Center for Performing Arts. The event begins with a reception at 5 p.m., dinner at 6 p.m. with the program to follow. This year, we will be celebrating award recipients Dr. Jerry Blackwell ’78, Kate Meeuwsen ’76, Danny Schulz ’05 and Julie Van Straten ’91.

2013 Alumni Award Recipients

2013 recipients of the prestigious Distinguished Alumni Award:

Dr. Jerry Blackwell, Class of 1978, president and executive director of the Wellmont CVA Heart Institute in Kingsport, Tenn. — A standout guard for the Phoenix NCAA Division II teams of the 1970s, Blackwell went on to  achieve prominence as a cardiology researcher and practitioner who served on the faculty of the University of Alabama Birmingham and continues to find success in clinical practice as a leader in the advancement of MRI and new diagnostic imaging technologies. He received his UW-Green Bay bachelor’s in Population Dynamics.

 Kate Meeuwsen, Class of 1976, civic leader, retired educator and member of the UW-Green Bay Foundation Board and Council of Trustees — Meeuwsen has a far-ranging and distinguished record of advocacy on behalf of educational initiatives at her alma mater and communitywide. She and her family have been important supporters of Phoenix Athletics, the Weidner Center, development of the Kress Events Center, and academic enhancements. Her community involvement includes leadership of the Adolescent Parenting Coalition, Inc., and formation of the nature-based 4K program at the Green Bay Wildlife Sanctuary. She received her UW-Green Bay bachelor’s in Communication and the Arts (music).

Julie Van Straten, Class of 1991, attorney, civic leader and general counsel for United Health One —  Over 20 years with United Healthcare, Van Straten has risen to an executive position with significant responsibility in corporate and regulatory matters, risk management and business development support. In the community, she has been honored (2010 Chamber of Commerce Athena Award) for her service as current president of the Women’s Fund of Greater Green Bay, as a member of the Chamber’s board of directors, and as a past board member for organizations including the Greater Green Bay Community Foundation, United Way of Brown County, and the American Foundation of Counseling Services.  She received her UW-Green Bay bachelor’s in English.

2013 recipient of the Outstanding Recent Alumni Award:

Danny Schulz, a 2005 graduate in Accounting and Business Administration, will be presented the
Outstanding Recent Alumni Award at alumni awards night on campus May 4. Schulz, employed at Kohler Co. as an accounting project leader in payroll, sales and use tax, has remained active with his alma mater including service as treasurer of the Alumni Association.

Master’s of Management Open House – May 7

A master’s program for management professionals that is convenient, yet offers you a traditional classroom experience where you can benefit from a collaborative environment and structure. Faculty with real-world experience. A degree requirement that includes a professional project that can directly benefit you or the company you work with. A program that will help you lead and succeed in complex and dynamic organizations.

Cellcom Marathon Alumni Volunteers Needed – May 19

Alumni Water Station, Cellcom Green Bay Marathon, May 20, 2012

Please join your Alumni Association at a water station serving more than 5,000 runners in the Green Bay Cellcom Marathon, Sunday, May 19. Volunteers typically start at 7 a.m. and are done by 10 a.m. Then, head to the finish line for complimentary food and refreshments.

Scholarship Golf Outing – June 7

Alumni Scholarship Golf Outing - Royal Scot Golf Course - June 8, 2012

Let this be the excuse you need to get out of the office to swing your clubs for a great cause…scholarships for deserving students attending UW-Green Bay! This event is hosted by your Alumni Association and its purpose is to raise funds for the scholarships the Association awards each year. So get a group of friends together and join! The golf outing includes a putting contest, 18 holes of golf with power cart, lunch, raffle, hole events an hors d’oeuvres reception and more. Team play will use a four-person scramble format.

Location: Royal Scot Golf Course in New Franken

Schedule of Events
9 a.m.: Registration and Putting Contest
10 a.m.: Shotgun Start (Four-person scramble format)
3 p.m.: Hors d’oeuvres Reception/Social
3:30 p.m.: Awards, Raffle and Door Prizes
