Celebrating the Phuture Phoenix Grant

Phoenix women’s basketball team returns to national spotlight

The Phoenix women’s basketball team dropped a 69-59 decision to No. 6 seed LSU, March 22 in the first round of the NCAA Tournament.

Green Bay’s senior class finishes with program-record 107 victories.

UW-Green Bay winter sports teams were winners

Most of you know that the Phoenix women’s basketball team was back in the national spotlight, again. But maybe you didn’t hear that many of the other teams were taking care of the competition as well:

Women’s Swimming & Diving team captures the Horizon League Conference title for the 5th year in a row. (Read more)

Men’s basketball finished the season with 24 wins, while senior Terry Evans was selected to participate in the NCAA Final Four Slam Dunk Contest. (Read more)

Two Nordic ski team members qualified for the 2009 NCAA Skiing Championships. As a team, the duo placed the Phoenix 19th nationally. (Read more)

Phoenix-Packers Steak Fry – Tuesday, April 21

Here’s a great opportunity to mingle with Phoenix and Green Bay Packers players and coaches. It’s the Phoenix-Packers Steak Fry, Tuesday, April 21. The event features a 5 p.m. social hour, 6 p.m. steak fry dinner buffet and 7 p.m. program and auction.

Phoenix run benefits cross-country program – Saturday, April 18

2591266The 12th Annual Phoenix 5K Cross Country Fundraiser will be held Saturday, April 18, at UW-Green Bay’s Kress Events Center. The run will start at 10:15 a.m., following the kids’ run at 10 a.m.

Participants can pre-register before April 12 for $15 ($20 on race day), $12 ($15 on race day) for UW-Green Bay students and staff, and $7 ($10 on race day) for the kids’ run. Entry forms are available at the Kress Events Center.

All proceeds will benefit the UW-Green Bay men’s and women’s cross country programs. Contact Coach Michael Kline, (920) 465-2950, for more information.

Cellcom Marathon Volunteers Needed!! – Sunday, May 17

Cellcom marathonJoin your Alumni Association at a water station serving more than 5,000 runners in the Green Bay Cellcom Marathon, Sunday, May 17. We typically start about 7:30 a.m. and are done by 10 a.m. Then we head to the finish line for food and refreshments. It’s fun!

Scholarship Golf Outing – Friday, June 12

SAVE THE DATE! Join us on Friday, June 12 for the 29th Annual Scholarship Golf Outing at the Royal Scot Golf Course in New Franken.

golfThe annual event promises to be a day of fun, including 18 holes of golf, beverages, lunch, hole events, putting contest, raffles, post-golf hors d’oeuvres reception, power carts and more!

Teams play a four-person scramble format. Prizes will be awarded to the team with the lowest scores and handicap winners.

• Registration begins at 8:30 a.m.; shot-gun start at 10 a.m.
• Cost is $80 per golfer/$320 per foursome. Sponser a tee or green for $125 each, or both for $200.
• Proceeds benefit student scholarships.

Shorewood is open for golf, restaurant to open soon

Shorewood Golf Course is now open for the 2009 season. Spring rates are in effect through May 1 with adults at $11 and juniors/UWGB students at $8 or you can have unlimited daily play for $15. Also, take advantage of the Shorewood Early Bird rate of $10 before 9 a.m. Call Bill Lindmark and his Shorewood Clubhouse staff at (920) 465-2118 to arrange your tee time.
