Wednesday, September 8, 2010
11:30am – 1:30pm
University Union 150

The American Intercultural Center would like to invite the campus community to join in a Welcome Back Celebration at the AIC/Office of Student Life (Room 150, University Union), from 11:30 a.m. to 1:30 p.m. Wednesday (Sept. 8).

The Welcome Back gathering is an opportunity for new and returning students to meet each other, learn about student organizations, resources offered by the AIC and programs developed by the Office of Student Life, the Diversity Task Force and much more.

It is also an opportunity to meet and network with faculty, administrators, and others who are advocates and allies for students of color and other under-represented students, such as students with disabilities, students from different religious backgrounds, students who are first-generation students, military veterans, students who identify as GLBTQ (Gay, Lesbian Bi-Sexual Transgender Questioning) and international students.

AIC Diversity Director Deborah Rezac notes that the “Inclusive Excellence” concepts of broader definitions of diversity are reflected here: “Our diverse student community is growing and with that growth will come great opportunities for new learning and will challenge us to work together in new ways!” So… 11:30 – 1:30 on Wednesday… stay as long as you like, bring your lunch and enjoy great fellowship!

We would like to invite the campus community to our Welcome Back Gathering in the AIC, University Union 150, on Monday (Feb. 1) from 11:30 a.m. to 1 p.m. It is a popular event for multicultural students, faculty, and our friends and allies campus-wide. As some of you may know, UWGB is beginning to explore an expanded understanding of diversity toward more fully integrating diversity, inclusion, and equity initiatives into the fabric of campus life. To that end, it is vital to make every effort to meet new people from diverse backgrounds and perspectives and to challenge ourselves to step out of our comfort zone.

The American Intercultural Center (AIC) shares the space with the Office of Student Life (OSL). The purpose of the event is to network with students, share a light meal together and informally visit with one another. The environment is safe, informal, and comfortable. The students call it a “home away from home”. The AIC hosts this event every semester, but the hope is that the connections made here will last throughout the semester and that we can begin to create new circles of support for students campuswide. We will take a few minutes to introduce the staff of the AIC and the Office of Student Life, as well as introduce the leaders of several key student organizations. If you are available anytime between 11:30-1:00 on Monday, February 1st stop in and visit with our students! We look forward to seeing you and working together to support student success!

For more information please call 465-2720.
